BBC3's new Spooks spin-off made a cracking start yesterday, with 810,000 (3.8%) watching the first episode at 9pm.
The 50-minute Spooks: Code 9 began with 862,000 (4.08%) in the opening 15-minutes but slipped to 767,000 (3.54%) at 9.45pm
The drama, featuring Joanne Froggatt and Georgia Moffett, was way above the channel's slot average for the year so far of 494,000 (2.28%) and well over double the average for last year of 348,000 (1.74%).
BBC3 rolled out the second episode immediately after the first and picked up 703,000 (4%). The episode peaked with 740,000 (3.84%) at the start.
Both episodes gained a strong ABC1 audience. The first episode gained a 57.1% profile share while the second rose to 61.8%. The show was also attractive to younger viewers. Viewers aged between 16 and 34 made up 22.7% of the first episode's audience 25.7% of the second.
BBC3 was also on form before the drama started, with the movie Lara Croft: Tomb Raider attracting 648,000 (3.32%) at 7.30pm.
No other multichannel offering gave BBC3 any cause for concern during Spooks: Code 9. Putting up some resistance at 9pm was ITV2's The Sixth Sense, which grabbed 412,000 (2.52%) over two hours with a further 92,000 watching on ITV2+1.
