Dreamland

The official BBC website has started the build-up to the "stunning" new animated adventure Doctor Who: Dreamland with a blog following the production process from writing scripts to the cast recording and from storyboards to full scale 3D rendering.

Dreamland is a computer-generated animation starring David Tennant as The Tenth Doctor and will be screening on the BBC's interactive "Red Button" feature on its television channels later this year.

In a video introduction, show-runner Russell T Davies tells viewers that over the next few months they will be sharing the creative process with its writer, director and animators. The blog also promises "videos, interviews, artwork, random posts and anything else we can think of."

An image from the project (pictured above) shows The Tenth Doctor outside Sammy's Pitstop diner and a US Army truck. Dreamland is also the name for Area 51 (based in Nevada), a military base often associated with UFOs.

The press release states that the 45 minute tale is set in the infamous alien hot spot Roswell, adding: "During a visit to a local diner he stumbles upon a mysterious alien artefact that leads him on a mission to rescue Rivesh Mantilax from the threat of the Viperox and the clutches of the American military."

Joining Tennant in the cast are: Georgia Moffett (The Doctor's Daughter) playing Cassie Rice; the voice of Bernice Summerfield, Lisa Bowerman (Survival); and the legendary David Warner (Tron, Time Bandits) playing the leader of the ruthless Viperox.

The writer for Doctor Who: Dreamland is Phil Ford who is one of the few to pen stories for the triumvirate of Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures and Torchwood. It will be broadcast in its entirety on CBBC on BBCTwo this Autumn and also on the BBCHD channel.
