Doctor Who: The Doctor’s Daughter, Review
The title of this episode had me very worried, bringing to mind all sorts of horrible possibilities. Fortunately they were laid to rest in the first 30 seconds. No convoluted continuity explanations here. More along the lines of cloning.
It becomes obvious very early on that the war the Doctor stumbles into is somehow being staged. Less clear is how he ends up in the middle of it.
Got to say I loved the design of the "fish" aliens.
David Tennant gets another chance to show his range as the Doctor when he is faced with the possibility that he may no longer be the last Time Lord. It's great to see these quieter moments from his bombastic Doctor and his slow acceptance of his "daughter" was well handled.
I'm not sure that the Martha Jones sub-plot really added much to the episode though. It seemed more of a distraction than anything else. Seems a waste of the limited number of appearances that Freema Agyeman makes this season really.
The explanation for what was going on was clever, but I'm not clear about one thing. If it was really only 7 days how come the General who was clearly considerably older than the rest, doesn't remember the start of the whole thing?
Georgia Moffett was excellent in her role as Jenny, the Doctor's "daughter". Normally I'm not keen on fake deaths or resurrections, but in this case I'll give them a pass as the character was too good to waste.
But I won't forgive them for the "time paradox" cop-out explanation for why the TARDIS landed there in the first place.
